Job Description
DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the Production Manager, the Home Repair Mechanic performs quality home repairs, picks up materials when necessary, and completes approved repairs in houses as assigned by the Housing Department for any of the home repair and modification programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to read and write English.
- Four + years full-time experience in the building trades.
- Must be familiar with all building repair functions: plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
- Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record (clear driving record for past 3 years)
- Dependable transportation and car liability insurance
- Experience with use of hand tools
- Sensitivity in working with older adult homeowners and vulnerable populations
- Ability to follow written directions
- Must be dependable
DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
- Check and ensure that required materials are at the job site prior to the beginning of a job and report any missing items.
- Perform repairs in houses as indicated on work orders and as required to meet established work quality and work safety standards.
- Without on-site supervision, complete quality carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work which does not require building permits or building trade licenses.
- Evaluate when a repair need has progressed beyond the scope of the program and notify supervisor.
- Report to the office exact starting and ending time and hours on each job; maintain communication so that the office is aware of mechanic's location at all times.
- Maintain and complete accurate records of travel, inventory, work hours on site and other paperwork as required.
- Work co-operatively with other Home Repair Mechanics. Work to increase and perfect technical skills.
- Report to the Production Manager any unusual problems or situations of homeowners which require follow-up by social work staff.
- Maintain mandatory inventory and orders needed items through the Materials Coordinator.
- Assume responsibility for all tools and materials received from PCA.
- Explain to the homeowner how each new item works. Clean up work area before leaving.
- Contribute to upholding a highly supportive team culture.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Production Manager or his designee.
